BACK 2 SCHOOL BLAST 2013

The date for the 2013 Back 2 School Blast is Monday, August 12 from 4:30-7:30pm at Parkway Wesleyan Church at:

 3645 Orange Ave NE  Roanoke, VA 24012

Pre-registration will be required and will be on August 1, 2013 at the Rescue Mission or Manna Ministries from 9am-8pm until tickets are gone.   Parent must bring child or child’s birth certificate or other form of ID to pick up a ticket.  One ticket per child.

To demonstrate the power of collaboration, eleven local organizations and businesses partnered together for the 2012 Back 2 School Blast. Over 1,750 children of low income families had their back to school supply needs met this year!  Here were the stats for 2012:

1,750 children received book bags and supplies
500 children received new shoes
218 children received haircuts
60 children received school physicals
25 children received immunizations
960 children received Gideon’s Bibles

“By collaborating with other organizations, we are able to have a bigger and better event,” says Leslie Littlefield, Volunteer Coordinator for the Rescue Mission. “Rather than multiple smaller school supply giveaways, one large event allows the organizing sponsors to pool their talents which means more efficiency and more effective service for struggling families with school age children in our community. Collaboration also allows more outside organizations, such as Carilion Clinic, the Police Department, TAP and others participate and reach these families with important information.”
